The Northeast Beyond the Postcard

Nordeste Plural is a platform dedicated to celebrating, supporting, documenting, and amplifying the people, communities, and initiatives that keep Northeastern Brazil’s popular culture alive. Through the lens of community-based and cultural tourism, the project contributes to local development while fostering meaningful collaborations and strengthening cultural agents across the region.

We create sustainable connections between the Northeast and people from Brazil and around the world who are seeking deeper, more authentic sociocultural experiences.

Our mission is to reveal the region in all its diversity and depth — from the weathered hands of artisans and the ancestral knowledge of matriarchs to the jangadas sailing against the sea; from the resilience of the sertão and the energy of urban collectives to the richness of cultural expressions and the remarkable ability of its people to reinvent themselves without losing their essence.

Why Community-Based Tourism?

In a world shaped by climate crises, displacement, and cultural erasure, there is a growing demand for travel experiences that respect the identity of local territories and foster genuine human connections.

Northeastern Brazil is one of the country’s richest cultural and emotional landscapes — home to living traditions, resilient communities, and vibrant creativity.

Nordeste Plural emerges as both an ethical and poetic response to the need for responsible, sustainable, and transformative connections between travelers and local communities.
